Kinging: cosa c’è dietro il gioco del travestimento e dello spettacolo? Tra desiderio lesbico e l’auto-identificazione maschile, quali stili di vita e concezioni di sé portano i drag king?<br /><br />Tutto quello che avreste desiderato sapere e non avete mai osato chiedere, sulla valanga queer e fenomeni connessi, in una conversazione con Judith Halberstam, nota a livello internazionale per la sua teorizzazione del fenomeno dei drag king e per avere declinato la maschilità femminile, e con Federica Frabetti, teorica queer.<br /><br />Tra le sue opere: The Drag Kings Book (1999) con Del La Grace Volcano. Le possibili definizioni e pratiche aggregate intorno al drag kinging, dal contesto spettacolare alle pratiche del quotidiano, i rapporti tra drag kinging e lesbismo e tra drag kinging inteso come espressione culturale alternativa e il suo ”riassorbimento” commerciale.<br />Female Masculinity (1998). Esiste una maschilità senza maschi - “la maschilità può (non deve) incarnarsi in corpi maschi”. Nella tradizione decostruzionista dei queer studies, il concetto di female masculinity mette in questione la naturalezza con cui i corpi maschili sembrano incarnare la maschilità.<br />In a Queer Time and Place (2005) Halberstam separa queerness (l’esserequeer) e corpo omosessuale. Spettacolo ma anche manifesto di libertà sessuale<br /><br />La guerriera Bradamante, e poi Giovanna D'Arco e la regina Cristina di Svezia. Ma anche Calamity Jane, George Sand, Marlene Dietrich e Greta Garbo. Erano tutte donne che negli anni '20, nei bistrot di Parigi o nei cabaret di Berlino, indossavano abiti da uomo, creando scalpore e curiosità. Oggi si chiamano Drag King. Sono artiste nate nella New York all'inizio anni '90, nel locale Casanova, e poi sbarcate a Londra. Le esibizioni dei drag king all'Essence Bar londinese, ogni sabato notte, è per molti un piacevole shock. Qui, infatti, viene rappresentato il Club Wotever, la nuova moda che sta sconvolgendo la scena drag di Londra. Il creatore di questa nuova tendenza è uno svedese, Ingo Andersson, che divenne nel 2003 un po' il guru di tutto il movimento queer. La cosa particolare è che, in quelle serate, le barriere che dividono i drag king del locale dal pubblico sono abbattuti: c'è un clima di totale no-gender, non esistono donne e uomini, tutti possono essere quello che vogliono, nel trionfo della perfetta libertà sessuale. E a conferma di questo, ogni aspetto è curato nei minimi dettagli, persino le toilette che sono uniche, senza distinzioni tra lady e gentleman.Il punto di riferimento quasi accademico, per chi vuole iniziare questa strada di spettacolo alternativo, è un drag king storico, </span><a href="http://www.dredking.com/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:78%;">Dred</span></a><span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:78%;">, forse la più famosa donna travestita. Americana di origini haitiane, il suo è un nome d'arte (quello vero è Mildred), ed è un acronimo di Daring Reality Every Day, (letteralmente sfidando la realtà tutti i giorni). Dred ha deciso di provare a travestirsi la prima volta nel 1995, dopo aver assistito a uno dei primi show di drag king a New York, al Pyramid Club dell'East Village. Ha cominciato per mettersi alla prova e di questa sua passione ne ha fatto un mestiere. Per spiegare il percorso di un drag king, ha interpretato se stessa nel film "Venus Boyz, viaggio all'interno della mascolinità femminile", pluri premiato al festival Internazionale di Berlino nel 2002. Un viaggio attraverso l'universo della mascolinità femminile. Spiega la produzione: "Venus Boyz esplora le vite e i mondi delle donne che si abbandonano al loro lato mascolino diventando "drag king". Un'incredibile notte da Drag King a New York è il punto di partenza per seguire la vita di alcune di loro. Alcune donne diventano uomini solo per una notte, altre per tutta la vita". "L'emozione più grande - aggiunge Dred- è quando cammini per strada, incontri un'amica e non ti riconosce". Dello stesso parere anche Gustavo L.G., la prima a portare in Italia, in maniera quasi istituzionale, uno spettacolo di drag king. Il gruppo Arcilesbica di Roma lo ha ospitato al </span><a href="http://www.bluejoy.org/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:78%;">Blue Joy</span></a><span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:78%;">, locale affiliato all'associazione, in una performance chiamata Drag4/1night. Doveva essere una festa privata, dicono dall'organizzazione Arcilesbica. Invece è stato un successo senza precedenti.Gustavo L.G. (nome d'arte) racconta la sorprendente accoglienza del pubblico: "Tante tante donne, stupite, incuriosite, e poi entusiaste, ma ancora non partecipative. Ho cercato, durante il mio spettacolo, di coinvolgerle in una performance molto stile Full monthy, ma erano più coinvolte a guardarci, conquistate". Gustavo, prima di salire sul palco, si prepara a lungo. Ventitre anni, arriva dalla Sicilia, canta e recita. Per interpretare un drag king cura con attenzione maniacale ogni dettaglio. "Dai calzini alla camicia, la mia è una preparazione di ore. In genere porto in scena i personaggi maschili di cui ho maggiore stima. Interpreto ciò che vorrei essere. Diversamente dalle drag queen, che esasperano i loro personaggi con accenti clowneschi, noi drag king siamo contenute nei modi e nei gesti".
